Celebrating Wharfedale Montessori peace education, our School are proud hosts of North Yorkshire’s premiere performance of “The Squabble”, a fantastic puppet theatre production by the Lempen Puppet Theatre Company. Originally produced by the Theatre des Tarabates from France, it is a simple sharing story told without words for young children. Wharfedale Montessori are delighted to be the first audience for this production!

A huge thank you to Liz and Daniel for bringing their show to us last Friday. All our pupils who watched the performance were thoroughly engaged, enthralled by the crabs that crawled out of the sand (which were Liz’s fingers) and amused by the sand castle that kept falling down. After the performance, our pupils were able to chat about the story and the staging with Liz and Daniel. We were delighted to see the younger children as they re-enacted some of scenes in our sand pit later that day! As Maria Montessori said, “Education is a natural process carried out by the child and is not acquired by listening to words but by experience in the environment.”

Peace education in Montessori classrooms is woven into every aspect of the curriculum and is embedded into the philosophical approach we have here. Watching and having an opportunity to discuss “The Squabble” has been another useful exercise for even our very youngest children to reflect on empathy and its benefits: a timely example of Wharfedale Montessori peace education in practice.

We look forward to hosting another visit from Lempen Theatre Company in the near future.
