Wharfedale Montessori children meet local MP at the House of Commons

Our oldest children from Cabin enjoyed a fantastic trip to London last week to see Parliament in action.

The children were first welcomed by a member of staff from our local MP Sir Julian Smith’s office who explained a little bit about the role of MPs and the Houses of Parliament. They then enjoyed a tour of the House of Lords and the House of Commons, learning about how democracy works and even having the opportunity to stand in the spot where the Gunpowder Plot was discovered! After their tour, Sir Julian Smith popped out to meet them for a chat. The children then proceeded to the viewing gallery where they were able to watch the Prime Minister Sir Kier Starmer as he responded to questions about UK defence and the defence budget.

They ended their afternoon with a walk towards Horse Guards Parade and Buckingham Palace, then through Green Park to jump back on the tube for Kings Cross Station and home! The children were amazing ambassadors for our school and for Montessori – jolly well done to all!
